Speaker Of The House Madame Halimah Yacob

Madame Halimah Yacob, who is the Singapore Head officer of the Parliament of the Republic of Singapore was the guest of honor at the Family and Parenting Seminar by Richard and Linda Eyre organized by Jamiyah Singapore with the cooperation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  The Honourable Speaker of Parliament presides over parliament and enforces the rules in the standing Orders of Parliament to allow for the orderly conduct of parliamentary business.  She was recommended by the Prime Minister and installed 14 January 2013.

Madame Yacob, a mother of five children, is a Malay politician from Singapore and is the ninth speaker of the house.  She was educated at the Tanjong Katong Girls’ School National University of Singapore. 

She is the first woman speaker and has been a member of Parliament since 2001 and one of the MPs serving the Jurong Group Representation Constituency.

She had previously served as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Social and Family Development.  She had been a Member of the Public Petitions Committee before taking the role as Chairman in the Committee of Selection.

In carrying out the duties in the House, the Speaker must remain impartial and fair to all MPOs.
